Summer begins today.
The light has changed. New growth has pushed through the soil. The air is full of birdsong. Nature plays like an orchestra in full voice.
Your body already knows the season has shifted.
This email is your seasonal map for Summer – where the season is heading, what your body needs right now, and five ways to move with the Fire element that governs these months.
Everything you're about to read lives in fuller detail on the website. This email is an invitation to go deeper.
Let's begin.
The Governing Principle: 開闔 (Kāi hé) — Opening and Closing

Summer is the season when nature opens the pivot to let energy move outward. Plants are flowering and fruiting. The heat rises from the earth, and your body is designed to do the same — to sweat, to move, to express what has been held quietly through the quieter months.
You are meant to radiate in summer. The pores are meant to open. The heat is meant to move through you and out.
But the opening does not stop at the skin. The energy moves outward when you think and express yourself. Do you have a project that has been waiting too long? A conversation you have been afraid to start? A language you have planned to learn?
Summer is the best season for inspiration and self-development. Use the pivot before it closes.

What Happens In the Heart Meridian When The Heat Rises

When the heat rises, so does everything you have been containing.
In TCM, the Heart meridian governs not just the physical heart but the Shen — the mind-spirit, your capacity for joy, connection, and emotional expression. Summer activates the Heart meridian. If you suppress that activation, the emotion becomes illness. If you flow with it, it becomes equilibrium — the quiet discipline of being enough.
Suppressed emotion in summer often shows as: anxiety without clear cause, a racing or fluttering heart, insomnia despite physical tiredness, or a feeling that the body is burning from the inside out.
The path to health is not more control. It is equilibrium — honoring what the body
is trying to express.

Three Oils For The Open Season

If 開闔 (Kāi hé) is the governing rhythm of summer — the pivot that opens so energy can move outward — then the oils you reach for should do the same.
Bergamot opens without overstimulation. It carries both Wood and Fire — the Liver's function of smooth upward flow, and the Heart's capacity for warmth and expression. If you arrive in summer with a decision postponed or a project not yet begun, bergamot moves that stagnation outward.
Neroli opens without tipping into agitation. It encourages the Heart to express itself while protecting against overwhelm. Use it when you want the clarity of opening without the anxiety.
Lemon disperses. Its pungent, upward-moving quality mirrors what the season
is asking the body to do through perspiration. Use it to actively move stagnant
energy outward through the surface.
A simple summer blend:
Bergamot 2 drops
Neroli 1 drop
Lemon 1 drop
Diffuse in the morning. Let the pivot do what summer designed it to do.

What Your Body Needs In The Kitchen

Your grandmother followed the same rules without knowing their name.
Summer digestion is lighter than winter. The heat is already present in the body, so foods that cool without depleting work best. In TCM, this means:
Bitter foods (which cool excess heat while strengthening digestion):
Chicory, endive, bitter melon, radicchio, arugula.
Light proteins (not heavy broths, but fresh and cooling):
Fish, tofu, mung bean, light soups.
Fruits of the season (which carry the season's cooling quality):
Watermelon, peaches, apricots, strawberries.
The Five Flavours in summer:
Bitter is the dominant flavour. Salty supports the body's natural sweating. Sweet (in whole fruits, not refined sugar) nourishes when the heat depletes you.
The guiding principle: eat what the season grows. Your body is not separate from nature. It follows the same intelligence.

Three Summer Practices
Go outdoors and sweat. Morning or evening, when the sun is gentler — walk, swim, move. The body's pores are the physical expression of the summer opening that TCM asks of you. Let them do their work.
Use rose or rose water to support the Heart meridian. Rose carries the Fire element's opening energy. One or two sprays as a face mist takes thirty seconds and changes the quality of the afternoon.
Write down one thing you have been postponing and one small step you can takethis week. Not a plan — a beginning. The pivot is open. Use it before it closes.
